OFFICIAL NEWS
Disciples of the Dark Gods has finally hit the shelves at most Friendly Local Game Stores! Woo-hoo!
After a long dry spell, we actually have a couple items of news:
Game Trade Magazine has a preview illustration from Disciples of the Dark Gods here, as well as a PDF preview of Creatures Anathema here. Enjoy!
In addition to that, the release date for Creatures Anathema has been firmed up as January 2009.
Where to start on the news!? There's a bunch!
- By far the biggest news is that Rogue Trader — the second main game for 40KRP will be out for GenCon 2009!
- Second on the list is the announcement that Creatures Anathema, described as an Inquisitor's Handbook for radicals, will be out in October 2008.
- Next, the hardcover reprints of both The Inquisitor's Handbook and Purge the Unclean are out, and they have color art that had been grey-scaled by BI on the first editions.
- Also on the reprints front, the GameMaster's Kit, now with more durable cloth-paper covering, is now available.
Firebase Magazine, a 40K fanzine done by the lads at Warseer did an interview with Ross Watson where he announced the title of the next book for the 40KRP line:
Creatures Anathema will be a book about denizens of the Calixis Sector, including Xenos, Daemons, beasts, and a host of other goodies. I'm sure this is at least partially in response from the great demand to expand the scope of the game, and is a welcome addition to the game line.
FFG has welcomed Ross Watson as the new line editor for the 40KRP line, and he has put up a Design Diary that's well worth the read - including news on reprints and hardbacks!
The Inquisitor's Handbook and Purge the Unclean have now been released in the US as well as the UK, where they have already been available for the last month.
The shipment containing The Inquisitor's Handbook and Purge the Unclean, already released in the UK, has been delayed till June due to sea-freight difficulties. The reprint of the main rulebook, due later in the summer, will include errata corrections.
FFG has put up an official Dark Heresy page. Both The Inquisitor's Handbook and Purge the Unclean have been released in the UK. US customers will have to wait for the titles to arrive via sea freight, most likely at the end of April or early May.
FFG has opened both a W40K Roleplay Forum and a WH Fantasy Roleplay Forum to support the transferred BI games.
FFG has released a FAQ that deals primarily with their new acquisition of Dark Heresy. They have affirmed that they will release the books BI had in the pipeline, and will be supporting it with new offerings as well. They also dispel a number of unfounded rumors, such as changing the game system to d20.
Both The Inquisitor's Handbook and Purge the Unclean have been released in the UK, but those of us in the US will have to wait till late-April or early-May for our copies to arrive by boat.
It's been a real rollercoaster ride for Dark Heresy fans, and after learning that Black Industries would be shutting their doors in September of this year, we are now rewarded with the news that Fantasy Flight Games has picked up the license for 40KRP, WHFRP, and all the other games outside of Games Workshop's core titles, with the notable exception of Space Hulk. You can read the entire press release here. Although they have not set up an area yet, it's well worth setting up an account at the FFG Forums to let them know how happy we are that they've saved these excellent games.
The first printing of the Dark Heresy rulebook has sold out after being available for order for just over a month. The game's sales have far exceeded Black Industries expectations, and they will order a reprint. Note: this does not mean that the game will not continue to be available at your local game store for some time yet, just the Black Industries is out. So make sure you get your copy today.
The limited edition Collector's Edition of the Dark Heresy rulebook went on sale at Black Industries and sold out in a record 6 minutes! Also, the first copies have been delivered, allowing fans their first glance at the finished game!
Just made some minor adjustments to the release schedule, including the update that The Inquisitor's Handbook and Disciples of the Dark Gods will now be softcover releases. BI made the change for economic reasons.
Just check out the product release schedule above for updates on the line, including the new Deluxe Leatherbound Edition! See the announcement here
Black Industries has incredible news today, receiving their finished copy of Dark Heresy! See the interview with Mike Mason here.
...but that's not all, they've also put a character sheet up on the web on the 40KRP Game Aids Page!
Go check out the Black Industries Calixis Sector page for a listing of systems and some very interesting background information on the sector.
More news from Black Industries, coming by way of seminars they've done at the summer convention circuit. The Inquisitor's Armoury and Acolyte's Handbook have been combined into one massive tome: the 256pp Inquisitor's Handbook. They have also announced that Disciples of the Dark Gods will also weigh in at 256pp.
Some very interesting news concerning the core rulebook: the page count has increased from 320 to 400 pages. There's actually more news, but I need to wait for BI to make the official announcement...
Amazon just put up new cover images for the first four Dark Heresy releases: Dark Heresy Rulebook, Game Master's Kit, Character Folio, and Purge the Unclean.
Black Industries has given us desktop-scale maps of the Calixis Sector; you can get them here.
In other news, 40KRP demo games for GenCon sold out within the first 24 hours of registration opening!
Sadly, Black Industries has announced another significant delay in the release of Dark Heresy. You can read it here.
However, they have given us more information on the first few sourcebooks. Let's hope that this makes for a better game in the end…
Kate has let slip a few more bits of information about the combat system, which will include Pinning, Supressing Fire, and other "modern" elements such as Fully Automatic Weapons.
Kate Flack gave the 40KRP faithful a New Year's gift in the Forums in the form of a few answers to posted questions. In summary:
- Black Industries will begin fortnightly updates at their Blog
- The Dark Heresy gamebook will center on the Calixis Sector
- The time between the core-system gamebook releases will be 12 to 18 months, depending on a number of factors
Check out the 10 November 2006 entry of the Black Industries Blog for a playtest report on the new game system. Though it's been "cinematized," the careful reader can glean important workings of the system by reading between the lines.
Black Industries has revised their website, and announced that they will delay 40KRP till fall of 2007, with some pre-release copies available at GenCon 2007. They feel that more time for playtesting and editing will make for a better release, and in general, I concur. You can read the entire press release here.
A mock-up Cover of 40KRP found its way onto Amazon UK, and has also appeared officially at GenCon 2006 in August. Though not final, it looks very nice, capturing the feel of the 40K universe.
This press release of 18 July 2006 details the first few releases of the 40KRP line, and this one from 19 July 2006 talks about the first collection of adventures.
On the Black Industries Forums, one of the 40KRP design team (forum name tsluikart) has been dropping interesting tidbits of information concerning the game
